As we already mentioned, these oats can be consumed in a variety of ways. However, here we are discussing ‘Steel Cut Oats Recipes Indian Cuisine’. So here we come with step by step method of cooking and all the ingredients required for the dish.

Preparation Time – 15 mins ( to cut vegetables)
Cooking Time – 15 mins


Steel Cut Oats – 1 bowl
Onion – 1 medium size(cut into small pieces)
Tomatoes – 1 medium size ( cut into small pieces)
Bottle Gourd (cut into small pieces)- 1 cup
Carrot ( cut into Small pieces) – 1 cup
Green Peas (Boiled) – 1/2 cup
Chillies (green or red) – 1 small or half of big one.
Green Coriander Leaves – Handful
Curry Leaves – 5-6 leaves
Mustard Seeds- 1/2 tbsp
Cooking Oil – 2 tbsp
Red Chilli powder – 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tbsp
Salt – As per taste

Cooking Method:

Soak Steel-cut Oats in water for an hour. ( Soaking helps in reducing the time of cooking.)

Place a pan or Kadai on gas, put oil and heat it. Add curry leaves and let it splutter. Then add mustard seeds and green chilli and fry for a minute.

Add onions now and fry for some time. When onions become light brown add tomatoes. Fry for some time till tomatoes are smashed.

At this point please add spices: Salt, red chilli powder, and turmeric powder and mix it well.

You will see the nice colour of the mixture.

Now the turn for vegetables of your choice – bottle gourd, carrot, peas etc. and cook for 3-4 mins.

Add soaked oats in it and cook without water.

After 2 mins add little water (1/2 cup)

Cook until soft. Serve hot and sprinkle some green coriander leaves on your dish.
